Jaelion

Our Story

Built to Equip Those Who Care for Others

Jaelion was founded by clinicians who understand that whole-person healing requires the full depth of what evidence-informed testing can reveal. Every partnership we build reflects that firsthand clinical understanding.

The Name

Jael. Ion. Jaelion.

The name Jaelion is a deliberate combination of two words, each chosen with purpose.

Jael is the name of a heroine in the book of Judges, chapters 4 and 5. In a moment when courage was required and no one else stepped forward, Jael acted with boldness and decisiveness to protect her people. Her story is one of unexpected strength, faithfulness, and the willingness to do what needed to be done. We carry her name as a reminder that meaningful work often requires that same kind of courage.

Ion represents forward movement and positive charge. In chemistry, an ion is an atom that has gained or lost an electron, giving it energy and the capacity to interact, to change, to move. We chose it to reflect our commitment to progress: in the science we apply, in the partnerships we build, and in the outcomes we help practitioners achieve.

Together, Jaelion reflects who we are: a company grounded in faith and purpose, moving forward with intention.

Our Values

What guides how we work

Whole-Person Care

Health is not merely the absence of disease. It is the integration of physical, nutritional, and functional wellbeing, understood in the context of the whole person.

Evidence-Informed Practice

Every testing category we offer is grounded in peer-reviewed research and recognized clinical guidance. We publish our methodology and limitations openly because transparency is a prerequisite for trust.

Practitioner Partnership

We serve practitioners, not consumers. Our role is to equip clinicians and certified health professionals with tools that extend their capacity to serve the people in their care.

Stewardship

We take seriously our responsibility to the practitioners who trust us and the patients and clients they serve. Stewardship of that trust means operating with integrity, clarity, and care in everything we do.

Precision Testing, Guided by Clinical Experience

Jaelion was built by clinicians who have worked at the bedside, interpreted complex lab findings, and experienced firsthand the gap between standard care and whole-person health.

With more than seven years of acute-care nursing across Orthopedics, Neuro, Trauma, Emergency Medicine, and Intensive Critical Care, Cathy Buben has spent her career at the intersection of clinical precision and patient advocacy. That commitment to the whole patient is what ultimately led her to functional medicine.

"I believe true health comes from treating more than just symptoms. I want to get to the root cause of what is going on in the body and help patients find real, lasting healing."

After years of unexplained fatigue, joint inflammation, and symptoms that standard labs marked as "normal," Cathy underwent comprehensive functional testing. The results revealed nutrient deficiencies, food intolerances, compromised gut integrity, and heavy metal accumulation that standard panels had missed. The clinical outcomes were measurable: chronic joint pain resolved, inflammation decreased dramatically, and her physical therapist independently noted the reduction in wrist swelling.

That clinical experience is the foundation of Jaelion. She holds certification through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMACC) and built this platform to give clinicians and certified health professionals the tools to offer the same level of comprehensive, evidence-informed testing without the operational burden of building a functional medicine program from scratch.

Betty Lou Schau brings more than 25 years of clinical experience across Acute Care, Emergency Medicine, and Functional Medicine to her role as Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Jaelion. She brings deep dedication to identifying and addressing the root causes of chronic illness through comprehensive functional testing and individualized care protocols.

"True wellness begins with honoring the whole person. When we look beyond isolated symptoms and examine the full clinical picture, we find answers that standard care consistently misses."

Her expertise spans functional health assessment, treatment planning, and the clinical interpretation of advanced biomarker panels. Betty Lou works directly with certified health coaches and clinical practitioners, providing the evidence-based oversight that translates complex lab findings into actionable patient care plans.

Betty Lou's clinical philosophy is grounded in the principle that the body, when given the right information and support, has a remarkable capacity to restore balance. Her work with Jaelion reflects that conviction: providing clinicians with the diagnostic depth to see what standard panels cannot, and the clinical framework to act on those findings with confidence.
